Newcestown v St Finbarr's 19/2/2012

posted 21 Feb 2012, 00:51 by Jerry O'Mahony
The Senior footballers kicked off the Division 1 league campaign against St. Finbarrs last Sunday afternoon in Newcestown.  The home sides struggled to get to the pace of the game early on and were trailing by 7 points after 20 minutes.  Newcestown then began to settle into life in the top league division and by half time had reduced the margin to 4 points (2-4 to 0-6).

There was a big transformation to the game in the second half with both sides kicking some fine points. Two goals in quick succession midway through the half by Hugh Curran and Daniel Twomey drew the sides’ level. The ‘bars restored a 3 point lead with a few minutes remaining only for Eoin Kelly’s first time volley (from the ground) from 30 yards nestled to the bottom corner of the net to bring the sides level once more.  Newcestown narrowly missed a free with the last kick of the game to take both league points but a draw was a fair outcome.  Final Score 3-10 each.
