Tadhg Crowley Plate final vs Aghada 12/2/2014
Thursday evening saw the Newcestown Senior footballers travel to Carrigaline to play Aghada in the Tadhg Crowley Plate final under lights. Aghada put plenty pressure on the Newcestown defence but the back held strong. Carthrach Keane made the most of a mistake by the Aghada defence and shook the net despite the best efforts of the keeper. Carthrach added a point from play before James Desmond was fouled in the Aghada square. Tadhg Twomey stepped up to take the penalty which was saved by the Aghada keeper but Tadhg was fouled by the keeper and he made no mistake at the second time of asking sending the keeper the wrong way. Cathrach Keane added another point before the half time break to leave Newcestown ahead by 2-05 to 0-06. The second half proved a much tighter affair with Daniel Twomey scoring 3 points (one free from the hand) and Tadhg Twomey adding Newcestown’s final score of the night.
