Seán Óg Ó'hAilpín was the guest of honour in Newcestown Parish Hall on Friday 27 December for the presentation of the medals to the Newcestown under 21 hurling team who beat Bandon in the divisional final on Sunday 22 September in Kilbrittain.

Seán Óg had some complementary words to say about Newcestown teams of the past and he demonstrated a fine knowledge of the present U21 team.

Seán Óg offered the following advice to the under 21 team:
  1. He quoted the great basketball player Michael Jordan who said that success is a moving target. Strive to improve all the time, so not be satisfied with previous victories.
  2. In training you get many more touches on the ball than you do in a match. You want to make every chance you get in a match count so hone your skills in training.
  3. Your playing career is short so make the most of it. You might not appreciate this when you are young.

Seán Óg had a kind word for young and old and gladly posed for photos & autographs.
