Minor Hurling County Final

posted 1 Nov 2011, 10:19 by Jerry O'Mahony

The minor hurlers were defeated in the A county final last Sunday evening by Fermoy on a score line of 2-12 to 1-9.  Newcestown had to take to the field without their inspirational captain Mark Courtney who was in a car accident earlier in the week (thankfully Mark will make a full recovery) and to compound matters found themselves trailing 1-2 to 0-0 inside the opening 5 minutes. To their credit Newcestown fought back gallantly and with some well taken scores reduced the deficit to 2 points before Fermoy got a second goal just before half time.  This young Newcestown team (with over half the players still U16) continued to battle hard in the second half but Fermoy held firm.
