The Newcestown 2012 minor football and hurling county double winning sides were presented with their medals by Jimmy Barry Murphy at a social evening in Bandon Golf Club on Saturday 9 February 2013. The guest of honour praised the achievement of winning a county title in both hurling and football in the same year. He added that it would be a good foundation for the team to win future county titles for their club.

Twenty two of the 2012 minor panel are eligible to play minor in 2013. This group of players won the county B championship final in 2007 and won the club’s first under 14 A south west championship division final in 2009.

Last year’s victorious Newcestown Junior C hurling team were presented with their medal by Chris Murray the president of Newcestown GAA.  They beat St Oliver Plunkett’s in the divisional final in Timoleague on 6 October 2012 by 4-11 to 2-6. Among the players present was the captain, Pat Kenneally.

Chris Murray was recently presented with the “Unsung Hero” award at a recent Buckley Financial award ceremony in Dunmanway by Conor Counihan.

Club members who are involved in the club lotto also attended the occasion. The Irish Weavers provided the entertainment.
