The u16 County Quarter Final between Newcestown and Ballinhassig got underway on Monday morning, 28th October.  Marking was tight in all areas, as a result, scores were hard to come by.  Goal keeper Orla Dinneen was kept busy, performing well under pressure, making a number of vital saves.  Both teams defended vigorously, with just one goal separating the sides leading in to half time.

Half time score: Newcestown 0-1 v 1-1 Ballinhassig.

The first score of the second half, came just five minutes in.  A glimmer of hope for Newcestown as wing forward, Olive O’Mahony, converted a point from a free, narrowing the gap to just two points.

Then, a stroke of luck for Ballinhassig, as the ball was dropped in high, in front of the Newcestown goal, bouncing awkwardly, hampering any chance to make a save.  Full forward Maria Kenneally was unlucky to narrowly miss out on a goal opportunity just moments later.

There were a number of wides, as both teams managing only two further scores; a point a piece.  Newcestown’s youthful side battled hard right to the final whistle never giving up, but the strength of Ballinhassig, was the key decider in the final outcome.
