On Saturday 4th October the u14 ‘A’ County Final Replay between Newcestown and Aghabullogue got under way on a bright but breezy afternoon at 4pm in Cloughduv GAA Grounds.  Both teams scoring in the first five minutes.  As nerves faded, neither team scored again until the twenty-fifth minute, such was the intensity of the game and the tremendous work rate of both defences.  Then, Aghabullogue scored two consecutive points to take the lead.  Shortly after, Newcestown midfielder Chloe O’Leary lobbed in a free to centre forward Emma Wilson who took full advantage, scoring a cracker of a goal.

Half time score: Newcestown 1-2 v 0-3 Aghabullogue.

The second half commenced with a Newcestown substitution; Lauren Wilson on for centre forward Alice Tarrant.  Aghabullogue midfielder Ciara McCarthy, scored another point to narrow the gap to just one point.  Maria Kenneally and Chloe O’Leary had a number of opportunities on goal, only to be denied by the excellent goal keeping skills of Aghabullogue goal keeper Miriam Cotter.  Aghabullogue had several chances of their own but could not convert, as goalie Orla Dinneen flanked by Kate Barry, Aoife O’Sullivan, and Evelyn McCarthy closed ranks, leaving little room for error.

A great passage of play between left half back Siobhan Kelleher, right half back Ciara O’Sullivan and midfielder Meabh O’Donovan, Meabh driving the ball up field to her namesake left half forward Meabh McSweeney.  Meabh spotted wing forward Aoife B O’Sullivan loose on the edge of the square.  Aoife’s attempt on goal saved by the Aghabullogue goalie as Chloe O’Leary pounced on the rebound, scoring another point.  Chloe continued her scoring spree, converting a further goal and point from frees.  Maria Kenneally and wing forward Aoife Buckley followed suit scoring a point a piece from play.

Sheer strength and stamina ensured Newcestown remained ahead to the final whistle.  A valiant effort by Aghabullogue, in particular midfielders Cliona Healy & Ciara McCarthy, but it was Newcestown to emerge victorious.

The Camogie County Board acknowledged the many notable performances on both sides as “the cream of the crop” of u14 Camogie shined through in yet another thrilling County Final encounter.  Most notably from Ciara O’Sullivan, Aishling O’Donovan, Aoife Buckley and Chloe O’Leary, all outstanding in their right, covering the length and breathe of the pitch, instigating many set plays and playing an integral role in setting up a number of scores, making the decision of the County Board to pick a player of the match a difficult one.  The free taking abilities and score conversions of Captain Chloe O’Leary shone through, so congratulations goes to Chloe on receiving the accolade of Player of the Match.
