Newcestown and Kilmacabea made the trip to Dunmanway recently for their minor football championship clash. It was Newcestown who were quicker out of the blocks and playing a slick brand of attacking football raced into an early lead. After 20 minutes Newcestown were leading on a scoreline of 2-9 to 0-3, Cian Healy having raised the two green flags for Newcestown. Coming up to half time Eoin O'Sullivan scored a goal for the boys from Leap to help narrow the gap and when the referee blew the short whistle Newcestown were in front 2-12 to 1-4.

The second half proved to be a more even affair with Kilmacabea showing a lot of skill to score some lovely points with corner forward Damien Gore particularly effective from frees and play.

However the goal they needed to get back into the game never materialised and Newcestown were able to pick off their points to maintain the gap. The final score was Newcestown 2-20 Kilmacabea 1-13 with Newcestown now playing Western Gaels in the semi final.

Referee John Forbes did a fine job in a sporting contest.
