All roads led to Ballinacarriga last Tuesday evening where Newcestown and Western Gaels faced each other in the Rebel Óg west under 14 B hurling final. Both teams served up an hour of fantastic hurling with no small amount of skill on display. After ten minutes Western Gaels led by two points to one. At this stage Newcestown struck for two quick goals to put them in control. Western Gaels came strongly back with some lovely points and a goal coming up to half time left the game in the balance. Half time score Newcestown 2-3 Western Gaels 1-5.

The second half saw the Newcestown boys begin to dominate and found scores easier to come by. That's not to say that Western Gaels wilted but they found the Newcestown defence in a mean mood and as a result their scores dried up. Newcestown were leading by two clear goals with time almost up. Both teams then scored last minute goals to leave the final score Newcestown 4-7 Western Gaels 2-7.

West region Chairman Aidan O'Rourke then presented the cup to Newcestown captain Conor Goggin.
