On Thursday 30 August 2012 our under 16 footballers made the trip to Ballinascarthy to take on Castlehaven for a place in the semi-final. This was a game which ebbed and flowed with each side enjoying their periods of dominance.

Fastest out of the blocks were Castlehaven who found scores easy to come by in the opening quarter while Newcestown scores were as scarce as household tax payers. The score entering the second quarter was 0-6 to 0-1 to the men from the west. Just as our supporters were beginning to despair the St John boys started a fight back to leave the half time score at 1-6 to 1-3

Some astute changes from our side-line team saw a transformed side re-emerge in the second half. With Cian Healy running riot up front Newcestown plundered 2-3 without reply to leave them leading by two goals entering the final stages. As you would expect Castlehaven roared back into the game .Only for some fine saves by Cathal Clarke in goal we would have been in trouble, and it took two more points from our boys to ensure victory on a score line of 3-8 to 2-10.

Team on the night was Eugene Courtney(0-1) Ciaran Desmond, Lee O Donovan, Evan Shorten, Gerard Collins, Luke Meade, Cathal Cadogan, Murt Kenneally(0-1), Sean O Donovan, Jason Jordan(1-0), Dara Curran, Timothy O Sullivan, Colm Dinneen(0-2) Cathal Clarke, Cian Healy(2-4), James Kelleher, Brendan O Mahony, Kieran Phelan, Michael Lordan, David Good, Sean Coughlan, Luke Power, and Cian Goggin.
