While our minors and under 16’s are scaling back on their matches in preparation for exams (best
of luck to all concerned) our Under 14’s continue their hectic schedule. Having recently drawn
with Kilmacabea in football and beaten Barryroe in football and hurling league matches they faced
Bandon last Thursday in the hurling league in Newcestown. With God providing the stage lighting by
drowning the pitch with glorious sunshine both teams took to the stage and provided us with a very
entertaining hours hurling.

The opening act saw Bandon race into an early lead scoring 1-1 in the first two minutes before
Newcestown found their feet. The rest of the first half saw our boys claw their way back to
parity with some delightful points before Bandon scored a second goal to leave the score at the
intermission as Bandon 2-5 Newcestown 0-8.

The second act saw the Newcestown defence tighten up considerably while up front we kept tacking
on the points allowing us to surge three points clear entering the final quarter. Another Bandon goal
however put the game back in the melting pot. The St John boys responded manfully scoring a goal
which bought a cheer from their supporters that drowned out the cacophony from the passing silage
trailers. Further points secure a well-deserved win on a score line of Newcestown 1-18 Bandon 3-6.
