Newcestown travelled to Barryroe to play Ibane Gaels in what was for both sides their first game. The game started at 19:30 and was played under lights.
The home side started well and had the Newcestown defence under pressure in the opening 10 minutes.
The visitors weathered the storm with good displays by David Buckley and Colm O'Donovan at mid field and Eoghan Collins at centre back. The lively forwards (in particular Edmund Kenneally, Seamus O'Suillivan and Daire McAree) converted a lot of their chances and Newcestown were ahead by 8 points at half time.
The half time score was Newcestown 2-8 Ibane Gaels 1-3.
The second half saw Newcestown taking up where they had left off, with some fine displays both in attack and defence. The full back line of Tadhg Galvin, Ciarn Durkin and James Ryan had a solid game. Pressure was put on the Ibane players all over the field which limited their scoring opportunities. Tom Flanagan made his mark when he came on in the second half and scored a fine point.
The full time score was Newcestown 4-14 Ibane Gaels 2-5.
