Minor Hurling Championship vs Bishopstown 18/7/2013

Newcestown minor hurlers beat Bishopstown last Thursday night in Ballincollig by 1-16 to 0-11 in the premier 2 county championship.

Newcestown had the upper hand in the first half, Bishopstown kept in touch by punishing Newcestown for any mistakes.

Bishopstown's mid field got a lot of possession from fielding the ball.

At half time Newcestown were ahead on a scoreline of 0-9 to 0-7.

In the second half Newcestown started the stronger and that advantage was converted to scores.

The highlight of the second half was a well worked goal which started with Niall Murray clearing the ball from the full back line to Jason Jordan who passed it to Jack O'Toole who struck it to Murt Kennelly who finished off the move with a shot which ended up in the top left corner of the net.

Towards the end of the game Bishopstown put a lot of pressure on Newcestown's back line. Each attack was dealt with by a strong defence in particular Greg Murphy and Niall Murray. Jason Jordan played an influential part in mid field.

Scorers for Newcestown Murt Kennelly 1-2, Cian Healy 0-7 (0-6 frees), Liam O'Mahony 0-1, Jack O'Toole 0-3, Luke Meade 0-3.

Next match is the semi final versus Carrigtwohill on August 17. On the same day Fr O'Neills play Sliabh Rua in the other semi final.
