Newcestown travelled to Rossmore to play Kilmeen in the Premier 2 Division 1 of minor football league last Saturday. It was a cold windy day and the pitch was heavy after the recent intense rain. In the first half Newcestown had most of the possession but a well organised Kilmeen defence kept the scores low. A pointed free and a well struck penalty kick from Jack O’Toole along with points from Greg Murphy and Murt Kennelly gave the visitors a lead of 1-4 to 0-2 at half time. The second half saw Kilmeen attacking more, however the full back line of Gerard Collins, Lee O’Donovan and Evan Shorten snuffed out most attacks. Newcestown shifted up a gear in the last quarter finishing with a goal from Oisín Collins and a nice point from Jack O’Toole. Full time score 2-10 to 0-5.
