Games continue to come thick and fast for our under age teams as we approach the business end of the season, with our under 16 and minor teams still fighting for championship honours on both hurling and football fronts.
On Monday last it was the turn of the minor footballers as they travelled to Drimoleague to do battle with Ilen Rovers in the semi-final. The first half proved to be a close affair with scores at a premium. The half time whistle saw Newcestown leading by the minimum 1-4 to 1-3
The second half saw an improvement from the St. John boys as they started to dominate throughout and pulled away to win on a score line of 2-9 to 1-5. They now face the winners of Dohneys and Pedlars Cross in the final
On Thursday 30 it is the turn of the U16 footballers as they face Castlehaven in Rosscarbery for a place in the quarter final
Next week sees our minor hurlers and U16 hurlers play their respective finals. First up are the minors who face Russell Rovers on Tuesday in Ballinlough. Three days later sees several of the players line out again for the U16’s as they face Aghabullogue in Cloghdubh on Friday. We wish both of them the best of luck in their endeavours.
Meanwhile our U16 footballers defeated Kilmeen in the league on a score of 1-11 to 0-8
